Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do I avoid getting my feefees hurt when getting notes?

10 answers:

  1. This is not personal.
  2. Take a deep breath and remind yourself that you paid for feedback, and by golly, you’re gonna get what you paid for.
  3. We do not give out participation trophies. We couldn’t be neurosurgeons. Same goes for some people with writing. It’s okay to discover it’s not for you. That’s part of the learning curve.
  4. You can still write strictly for fun, but you might not sell the script.
  5. Just because your Mommy says that your story is really good, doesn’t mean it is. She’ll love you regardless.
  6. Good readers and consultants (like us) base our feedback on tried-and-true aspects of screenwriting: Does your plot have momentum? Do your characters show growth? Is the script formatted properly? If any of these are no’s - we will let you know.
  7. We want you to put your best script forward. The notes we’re giving are not for our health.
  8. It’s all a learning process.
  9. You can choose to forgo our notes, but arguing with us about them will generally not make your script better. Remember, you can’t sit next to an audience member and explain away their questions.
  10. Be a grown-up.
Q. How do you maintain a productive creative environment for your clients?

A: No shirt, no shoes, no service = no respect, no inclusivity, no consulting. We reserve the right to stop our services.

Q. Will you give me a leg up in the industry?

A: If you mean by improving your screenplay, yes. But we aren’t obligated to help you find representation or a buyer. That being said, when we read good material, we are not above discussing options with you and providing a helpful connection. It’s happened. Then we wash our hands of it – whatever happens happens. Don’t thank us. Don’t blame us. Godspeed.
